Theme: Animated Love
BattleDream Chronicles
Alain Bidard, Martinique, 2015, 109 minutes, French with English subtitles, Canadian Premiere
In a futuristic world where reality is lived virtually, Isfet gains enough power to control the virtual world. She creates the Battle Dream where everyone must fight for the control of this world or die. This film echoes a fight against colonialism, a fight against slavery and the battle to be able to control one’s own destiny.
This unique fully animated feature was created by the director and done entirely on his own. The vision of world domination in the filmic world is well known yet, as Battle Dream unfolds it becomes clear that the Caribbean references makes it stand out, after all, it is a Martiniquan woman who saves the entire world.
